Extenuating Circumstances and Extensions

We offer our sincere sympathy and support to those impacted by natural disasters or other disruptions to the community.

In times of crisis, health and safety are paramount, and taking care of yourself and your family always take precedence. If you have been impacted by an extenuating circumstance that is making your college application process more challenging, we want to work with you to ensure you are still able to submit your application materials. Please be aware that deadline extensions are available, and you will not be disadvantaged in the admission process for delays caused by events beyond your control.

As a reminder, Brown is test optional for all applicants in the 2023-2024 admission cycle. We also remain committed to making the application process accessible regardless of income level, and provide automatic fee waivers in many cases. If your family’s financial circumstances have changed and the application fee now poses a financial hardship, you or your counselor may follow up with us to request a fee waiver.

The same flexibility and support applies to teachers, counselors, and other school officials who may be submitting application materials on behalf of students applying to Brown. We are committed to providing extensions to these important partners in the application process as well should the need arise.
